Dupuytren's and private health insurance

After reading many reports of DC sufferers here successfully halting the disease's progress with radiotherapy treatment, I've begun looking into whether my existing insurance plan covers this kind of treatment.

While I'm waiting for a response from my insurer, I'm curious to know whether any other guys in the forum have had any experience with this? Has anyone successfully had their private insurance cover the radiotherapy treatment?

I live abroad so have an international inpatient plan from a big name insurer in the UK. I live in China and they don't have a clue about Dupuytren's here so will probably choose to go back to the UK for consultation + treatment.

Appreciate any insight, and will also share my experience once I've found a resolution.

I will be having my bent finger straightened by Dr Denkler soon. I will report on the cost after my procedure.

Re: Dupuytren's and private health insurance

Hi - I am a radiation (clinical) oncologist treating patients in the UK. In answer to your question about which insurance companies cover RT: BUPA always cover, as do Aviva and WPA. AXA hardly ever cover (pretty well never). Cigna also do not cover. There are other companies whose authorisation is looked after by AXA, and they also don't cover.

I hope that's helpful.

Actually, I am a CIGNA insurance subscriber here in the U.S., and they DO (purportedly) cover radiation therapy, as per their current policy guidelines. (See the 'Radiation Therapy Clinical Guidelines' link at https://www.evicore.com/cignaguidelines). I sure hope so, because I just got the referral approved, and intend to undergo it. FYI, Aetna, as well, covers radiation therapy for Dupuytrens. The trick, I think, may be to get it approved as adjuvant therapy to reduce the chances of recurrence/progression after surgery, NA, or Xiaflex to deal with the contracture.
