Xiaflex in Australia - when PBS?

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to find information out about Xiaflex and the possibility of it becoming listed on the PBS in Australia. I know that, initially, it was knocked back, with the plan for the company to re-try later on - but that was some time now and I am wondering if anyone knows if/when it will/may be listed?

Given it is $1200 per vial, this works out very expensive. I am not urgently in need of xiaflex, but thought I would consider when it becomes a more economically viable option.

Thanks

Re: Xiaflex in Australia - when PBS?

There are some Aussies who visit the forum and may have the latest status. In the meantime maybe you can consider NA, since there are some threads of Aussies having had NA.

Thanks Spanishbudda,
Have already had NA - have been recommended Xiaflex - but just in shock about the cost!
Fingers crossed for PBS approval!

If someone does know anything, would be great to hear from you

Re: Xiaflex in Australia - when PBS?

I found a 2014 PBAC recommendation with conditions from a resubmission, following the 2013 rejection, https://www.pbs.gov.au/industry/listing/...mendations.docx, which suggests it should be on the PBS list. But since I live in the U.K. I don't really know how the process works.

You could inquire with Actelion, the distributor of Xiaflex. They ought to know. A phone number of Actelion Australia is on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...se_clinics.html . Alternatively you could contact e.g. Dr. Steve Coleman in Brisbane http://upperlimb.com/clinic/surgeons/steve-coleman/. He was involved in the Australian Xiaflex trials.

Re: Xiaflex in Australia - when PBS?

Hi I had NA in Adelaide back in April 2015 and the cost was quoted $1800 a vial & one might not be enough . Not listed on PBS and not any time soon. My NA cost was $500 out of pocket for each procedure with the same result. In Germany the health funds will not pay for Xiaflex.

Re: Xiaflex in Australia - when PBS?

NA might provide the same results as the collagenase injection (Xiaflex) and if collagenase is not available or covered then NA might be a good, versatile alternative. Both treatments won't cure the disease but will straighten your finger. To maintain this result wearing a night splint will probably be helpful.
