13 y/o daughter with contractures
Good evening! I have a 13 y/o daughter whom we adopted. She was born to a mother who drank alcohol heavily while she was in utero. We had noticed when she was very small that her baby fingers were pulling into a folding toward the palm position. I pointed it out to the geneticist and he made it sound like that was just another marker in her long list of genetic markers for some as of yet undiagnosed condition. I met a man a week and a half ago who was telling me about how he had Dupuytren's and I commented that it sounded like my daughter. He took one look at her hands and said, "That's it! She has it too!" I have since learned that it is rare in children her age. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with children having it. Our daughter is having limited mobility in her hands already, and it appears that it may be beginning to effect the ring fingers in both hands as well. We are concerned because she also has mental retardation and I don't know how well she could cope with a surgery like that. I have been looking into Marfans syndrome because over all we think she has a connective tissue disorder. Is Dupuytren's common in people with Marfan's? Thank you so much for your help!
