Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Judith, I am in the Dallas area and I tried and tried to find someone in this area, to no avail. I finally went to Oklahoma, but the RT they did there did not work for me.

Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Thanks so much for your response Paula. I have been trying to find someone in this area and haven't had any luck either. The couple of doctors I talked to said that when it gets really bad, they can do surgery to remove them, but I don't want to go that route.
I guess we will have to hope that someone in this area gets interested enough to offer this service.

Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Judith,
The RT doctors were not listed in the phone book nor did I find them through a doctors office. I first called the oncology offices and asked who did their radiation. They gave me those names and I called those offices and found out who treated keloids and found my doctor like that. I actually called the billing offices and gave them the diagnosis for dupuytren's and asked if they had ever seen that diagnosis and when they said yes, I asked who the doctor was who treated it. I then called that doctor and talked to him and found out he had preformed RT on dupuytren's and knew what he was doing. It took hours and days of calling until I found my doctor. He successfully treated my dupuytren's and I have been in remission 2 years this summer. Don't give up, but it might take some creative phone calling to find someone. If they know how to treat keloids then they should be able to treat dupuytren's, it is a similar low dose of radiation.

Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Lori, Thanks so much! I certainly don't mind making phone calls especially if I find someone who will agree to treat me.
I'm so glad to hear it worked for you and it gives me great hope that I can find some treatment before this gets anymore painful than it already is.
Thanks again!

Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Judith, Don't give up and don't take no for an answer. Do your homework, and when you find a radiologist willing to meet with you come prepared to teach him or her. I have just completed RT on both hands in Iowa, the first in the state as far as I know. I called every radiologist in Des Moines and in Iowa City. If one says no, ask for another one. Don't expect to find eager doctors, but if you know what you are talking about I know you can find one. Take a list of who has done it in the US, often times they know these doctors and that makes them more willing to work with you. Good luck! LauriW

Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Judith,
I agree with everyone.... Do NOT wait until you have to do surgery. RT works best in the early stages of DD and LD. I had RT in November 2009 in LaJolla, CA for two large, hard nodules on the bottom of my left foot and for active nodules in the palm of my left hand. The RT stopped the progression of the disease. Nodules on left foot at almost non-existant. On my hand, there are a few new nodules, but these are definitely outside of the radiated area....so....the RT was totally successful so far.
Don't let any doctor or surgeon tell you to wait until you have cords and bent fingers and need surgery. Read all you can about RT on this Forum and come back with more questions. Good luck with finding a doctor to do RT.

Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Judith, I agree with Luba and the others. Don't wait. RT needs to be done as early as you feel the active Dupuytren's with increased nodules or growing nodules. My grip became much weaker and the crawly feeling under in the palm were a symptoms of active Dupuytren's for me.
RT definitely helped.

Re: RT In the Dallas TX area
Thank you everyone, you've all been very helpful and encouraging.
I have a list of RT's from my Health Plans' website. There's quite a few.
Does anyone know if this is covered by insurance, or is it considered "experimental"?
Thanks again
Judith
