Re: RADIOTHERAPY -TIP.

There is a faulty assumption that there is a "double" dose of XRT to the palm with a second round of treatments. The dosage is very low and nothing like the treatment for cancers. The body recovers quickly from the radiation, and that is the purpose behind the gap of a couple months between the two series of XRT.

At present the only way to determine the extent of the disease's progression is by physical palpation of the patient's palms. The surgeon who performed a NA procedure on both my hands had not realized the extent to which the disease had progressed in my right hand.

Personally I would rather err on the side of having areas treated that may not have disease affected tissue as opposed to missing tissue that then affects surrounding tissue and continues the progression of the disease. I can understand the desire of the medical practitioner to take a conservative approach but the downsides to this approach is something that they do not personally have to deal with at a later date.

Re: RADIOTHERAPY -TIP.

I recently wrote one of the department heads in radiation/oncology at Univ. of Michigan hospital if they would be willing to offer therapy for Dupuytrens/Ledderhose. I received a favorable response back after they did their own investigation. One of his colleague's studied in Germany and had some awareness of this which helped. He called the German Clinic to see if there were any updates to the published papers. I have an appointment with them in a couple of weeks for an initial assessment. I let you know if they plan on offering this, but it does seem encouraging that it will be available here in Michigan in the near future.

Now if I could only convince one of the hand surgeons here to Learn NA. I've had zero success with that.

Re: RADIOTHERAPY -TIP.

Dave, our page http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radioth...literature.html includes several new publications about radiotherapy of MD/ML. The book entitled "Radiotherapy for Non-Malignant Disorders" appeared early this year and is quite up to date. Seegenschmiedt is one one of the editors.

Good luck!

Wolfgang
PS: Regarding NA, are you aware of Dr. Mahoney in Peoria, IL? Drs. Pess and Atik in NJ might also still be doable by car. http://www.dupuytren-online.info/NA_list_North_America.html

Re: RADIOTHERAPY -TIP.

Thanks Wolfgang. I did refer the U of M doctors to this site. I am aware of both the NA MD's in Il and Ohio. Still tried to get someone interested here. Unfortunately the head of Hand surgery (who did my original diagnosis) is dead set against NA. I even showed him before and after pictures
of my success with Eaton 3 years ago to no avail. When he retires (hopefully soon) I'll give it another shot.

Re: RADIOTHERAPY -TIP.

Hi Megan,
Just found your info about radiation therapy in Boise. I am recently diagnosed with Dupuytren's and am in the early N Stage: almost zero curvature in middle finger; a pair of nodules forming in my right palm. I didn't see any mention of what stage you were at when you started treatment, are you also in an early stage or more advanced? I'm trying to learn more about R.T. since it's early for me. My dad has had 3 [!] surgeries for his hands and I would like to avoid this in the future. BTW, I am also in the Seattle area. Thanks for any more info you can provide on your progress.

Re: RADIOTHERAPY -TIP.

I am currently recieving radiation treatment from Dr. Tripuraneni at Scripps Clinic, Torrey Pines. He is a wonderful compassionate doctor and I am very pleased with his staff as well.

Re: RADIOTHERAPY -TIP.

Hi Mark,

I'm just in the early stages....one nodule in the middle of my right hand with a cord, and a fine cord (no nodule) about a half an inch in length in the left hand. No contractures at all, full mobility of hand.

Megan
