exercise

Was just wondering what type of exercise some of you are doing? Not for the hands a over all body. And if you are exercising or weigh bearing - do you use free weights, bands, etc.? I'm concerned what a person can do without the pulling on the hands or does it really matter or does it make the disease worse? I've had RT and just don't want to screw it up by doing the wrong thing. I have osteoporosis and need to start some type of weight bearing exercise but worried about hands. Feel free to let me what everybody is doing. Take care

Re: exercise

I can't do the weight bearing excercise that involves my hand, it hurts too much. I have a hard enough time holding a watering can or anything that is slightly heavy. My doctor said that walking is a great weight bearing excercise as long as I get my heart rate up. I walk 2-3 miles a day either on a tread mill or outside.

Re: exercise

Each person's experience is different.

I've had Dupuytren's for at least 15 years, and Ledderhose for most of that time, and I've continued to do all sorts of work and exercise with my hands and feet, and never felt it made any difference in the progression of the disease. I bike a lot, walk a lot, run some and also do some modest weights for the upper body. There are far worse things than Dupuytren's and exercise can prevent some of them.

Re: exercise

I've had DD and LD for almost 15 yrs.....and I've done exercises of all kind through the years. At present time, I only exercise in the pool, for about one hour 4-5 times a week, because I've had knee and shoulder surgeries in the last couple of years and I find that the pool exercises are best for me. I alternate swimming, jogging, biking and arm exercises in the pool so I get a good aerobic workout.

Re: exercise

I diagonally cut up the foam beer can sleeves and use them to cushion my hands while lifting weights. Works great.
