First Dr Visit

As expected the hand surgeon diagnosed my right ring finger with DC. His only recommendation was the needle aponeurotomy. Should I delay getting this done, I have no grip problems whatsoever, and the finger only has a 20 degree bend in it?
He told me the cost for the needle treatment, including the diagnose would be $570. Does that sound right? and may need follow up cortisone shot. How much pain can I expect? should I get another opinion? thanks

Re: First Dr Visit

If the finger is bothering you then by all means have NA. You do want to leave NA until the finger bends much further, at which time the option shifts to Xiaflex or surgery. But if it's stable now, not progressing, not bothering you, that's your call. You might have to have NA done again, and again, anyway, and there's a chance NA will awaken the disease symptoms.

Another consideration is that RT can only be done on a flat hand. So by having NA to straighten it, you can then consider RT if the symptoms show signs of activity and progression, which is when RT is effective. I think this is what I would do.

Some say the most painful thing about NA is the injection of lidocaine or whatever is used. A bad bee sting, but only of short duration. It is only partially numbed as the doctor wants you to tell them if he gets close to a nerve.

Re: First Dr Visit

I know many people whose fingers did not contract past about 20 degrees and lived with it their whole lives. Some did not even realize was something called Dupuytren's. That is why many surgeons suggest to not come back until it bothers you.
