DUPUYTREN'S & ARTHRITIS

Meg:

I am 64 and suffer from mild arhtritis in my hips. One morning, when it took me 2 mintues to put on a sock, I decided tyhere was no !@#$% way I was going to conitnue this @$% for the rest of my life. I have worked out heaviy all my life (both aerobic - running and those kinds of things) + weights; I found out abouit Glucosomine, and for me, it was a miracle. I have to assiduously stretch so that I don't become like a board, but I am now able to continue the aerobic stuff - running, (1-2 miles every day or every ther day) and putting on socks and getting out of bed and cars without groaning as if I were 90; in other words, I can keep on keepin' on.

Today, I was diagonsed with Dupe. I have not been using my right hand too much because of the subtle irritation (not pain, no curling nor itching). I received a cortisone shot for carpal tunnle 3 weeks ago - I have been babying my right hand since then, but today, the doctor advised me to resume all exercise - so, I shall now begin to do curls, pushups (I can still put my hand flat with no problem), and whatever other stuff I do with my right hand - I shall not baby it.

My experience is that working thorugh the pain/irritation and cointinuing on is the best procedure. Of course, at this juncture, I am not as seriously afflicted as some of those who communicate in this forum.

I don't know if this is of any help. Stretch., Continue until told not to.

Good luck.

MF

Stretching

Michael,
Keep in mind that you are dealing with diseased tissue, not a pulled muscle or damaged ligaments. There is a difference, you can't just work your way through this. It doesn't do away with stretching and hard work. What you don't want to do is stimulate growth.
Good luck, it is your choice.

Arthritis

I have arthritis in my hands as well as DD. I wonder if the pain I blaim on DD may well be arthritis. Warm water helps my hands and seems to help both DD and arthritis.
