Depuytren`s Disease

Why don't you read some postings instead of asking silly questions?

Depuytren`s Disease

I am a 57 year old man from northern California. I just got back from my first visit with an orthopaedic surgeon. He said I have Dupuytren's contracture. It seems to be focused in my little finger between the PIP joint and my palm. Cords are not evident in my palm. My surgeon recommends surgery soon as my little finger is contracted 37 degrees. I am weighing my options. Collagenase therapy seems years away. I am emailing pictures of my hand to Dr.Badois in Paris for his thoughts about treatment. I am considering seeking a second opinion from Dr. Hentz at the Stanford University Medical Center.

I welcome any comments you may have about my plans.

Charlie, can you help?

Charlie, I am trying to find a valid email address for Dr. Badois. Have tried dr.f.badois@wanadoo.fr and am told this is invalid. What address are you using. Thanks so much. Traudl

Dr. Badois~sq~ e-mail address

I have exchanged a few e-mails using the address you said
you used and had no problem. The telephone number is 33 (0) 1 34 28 08 00. The mail address is 13, Avenue Du General de Gaulle, 95230 Soisy Sous Montmorency, France.
Again, the e-mail address is dr.f.badois@wanadoo.fr
If you write, he can e-mail back. Perhaps a reply will
work better than a new messaage.

castor oil massage

Claire, I have been massaging castopr oil between both palms -- the oil gets really hot, every morning this week. RToday, right afterwards the lumps are 'way down. I don't know what's going on.

new

I am new to DD. My hand dr wants to cut my palm open and remove the DD. I do not like the idea of being cut open but he is a hand dr. He says there are no options. He says collengase is far, far away but he will use it when it is available. He refusues to consider other DD treatments.

the list

Hi Bill - your hand surgeon refuses to consider NA?

well, fine then, not to worry! here's the LIST:

LIST OF DOCTORS OFFERING NEEDLE APONEUROTOMY* TREATMENT FOR DUPUYTRENS CONTRACTURE IN U.S.
(Updated 12/11/05)

please let us know of any corrections or additions

FOR INTERNATIONAL DOCTORS PERFORMING N.A. see:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/f.badois-dupuytren/html/liste.html

*(N.A. is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure for Dupuytrens which effectively breaks the cords which cause contraction of the fingers, thereby releasing them. The procedure has been available in France for many years with an excellent safety record and was introduced in the U.S. in 2003 by Dr. Charles Eaton. Since then a number of other doctors have begun offering N.A. to their patients as an alternative to open hand surgery.

Drs. Eaton and Kline both have informative websites (see below). Dr. Eaton's site contains some information which is more technical, and Dr. Kline's own experience with Dupuytrens adds a personal touch.)

Get an NA consultation

Bill,
Remember that Drs Denkler, Eaton and probably others will look at digital photos of your hand and tell you if they think they can help. Its really worth the effort even if you have to go buy a digital camera. Also, for many people, having surgery seems to agrivate the dup's tissue and it comes back even worse than before. This happened to me even though i believe the surgery was properly done by good people. I was fortunate to learn about Dr. Denkler on this forum and he fixed my pinkie with NA plus a minor incision even after two prior surgeries. (see post under Treatment by Dr. Denkler)

Even with travel NA will also cost less. I have insurance but with co-pays and deductables for surgeon, hospital, anesthesiologist, NA is way cheaper. If I get a recourrance, or if this shows up in another finger, I have now been two three hand surgeons and I will go back to the one that does NA.

photos

The photos don't have to be digital. In late 2004 I sent Dr. Eaton pics of my hand from a Canon AE1. The pics showed all the bends and bumps in their full 35mm glory. After reviewing these pics, he gave me the OK for NA.

Earlier this year when I got a digital camera (I traded in my 8 track tape player and my beta VCR) I tried to e-mail him the 1 year follow-up pics but for some reason they wouldn't send. I then put them in the mail and within a week I got a response.

having surgery on tues

I'm a 42yr male and i've had dp in my left hand for several years. it finally got aggressive within the last year and now have a band up my ring finger. the surgeon who dignosed also has dp, and was the one who said i was at the surgery point. I have talked to him about NA or even doing a skin graft so that it wont come back. He insists that NA will not be beneficial and wont consider a skin graft unless he doesnt have enough skin for the stitches. I also have it in my right hand with a band that is starting. I only found your site today and he has admitted that i have a very aggresive case that will come back. so any helpfull ideas on how to cope would be appreciated....thanks david
