Dr. Herman, Oklahoma City

I had radiation for my Ledderhose in August 2010 from Dr. Terence Herman at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City. I am happy to report that after four years I am still completely free of any nodules or pain. I can't say enough about my positive experience with Dr. Herman and his entire staff.

I had RT with Dr. Herman in Jan. 2011 and yes, you go in on a Monday, they do a 'fitting' or mold for the RT unit, then you have one treatment that afternoon, then two on Tues & Thurs., then one on the other days. A total of seven, if I remember right. I went first thing in the mornings, early, then after lunch. Stayed at hotel and had a cab pick me up each time and then return me to hotel. I should have rented a car, but had the same Taxi guy every day - I gave him my schedule to be at the Oncology Bldg and it usually only took 15 minutes until I was finished and ready to go back to hotel.

My wife went with me and there is plenty of time to do other things, so I would recommend getting a car while there. Very simple each step and after initial Dr. appointment, you just show up and Friday morning, you are finished. Best to go when they open each morning as you avoid any waiting. Afternoons were only about a 10-15 minute wait, then it took about 5 minutes for the treatment, then you were done.

I would recommend RT early with Ledderhose as it seems to be more effective if the nodules are small and there aren't many of them. I had no issues, but later on - like 2-3 years later - your skin on bottom of feet will feel a little bit dead or not very sensitive. My nodules are still there and I've gotten a couple of new ones on the outside of feet. Where the RT was not applied. Only a problem when wearing tight shoes. I would suggest the RT over anything else, but if you wait like I did, you can't expect to have them disappear completely. I had a few on each foot and some were large. But, the entire process is easy and doesn't take much time, so plan accordingly. We did get bored without a car, so I would get transportation if I did it again.

Good luck - the hotel we stayed at was next door to Toby Keith's restaurant and about 10 minutes from the Oncology Bldg.
