Is pain at the beginning of new shoes just normal

My doc suggested shoes with support. But shoes with any kind of support hurts my feet. I was told that my feet have to get used to the support I wear flats only without any support. I have both plantar fibromatosis and plantar fascitis. the top of my foot even hurts. If I know it will get better I will use support. One doc gave my a brace that laces all the way up. It causes the top of my foot to hurt. Again if I know it will get better I will try it. He told me shoes and brace or I will end up in a wheelchair. It does not sound that way to me from this forum. I am so glad I found this site.

I'm sceptical. A lot of people on the forum talk about finding the right shoe for them. Mentioned are Crocs, Merretts (sp?), Nike Free and so on. I have plantar fasciitis and the only thing that works for me is Fitflops sandals but not the shoes. I tried orhotics and ditched them. I play tennis and include 2 or 3 sorbothane insoles and they help. Have you investigated treatment options including massage, radiotherapy? Plenty of other suggestions on the forum.
