Hi. I'm 36yo, male, caucasian with no family history of Dupytrens. Developed first bump near a year ago in palm of right hand under middle finger, below the top crease. When had ultrasound they told me nothing, though went back for biopsy they declined to do it and told me I have palmar fibrosis. Developed several more nodules since December either side of original below middle and little fingers. I saw a hand specialist who told me it looked like Dupytrens/palmar fibrosis (he wasn't term specific). Any way I was wondering how common this is without any family history (I know my parents, brothers, uncle, aunt and grandparents did not have it. I am half Swedish) And if I should investigate further as my lack of family history and young age left me not super confident in the diagnosis. The hand specialist mentioned biopsies potentially aggravating the condition so I wanted to know if one might be warranted. Appreciate any advice.
You are not alone, about half of the people with symptoms of Dupuytren's don't know anybody in their family who has Dupuytren's https://dupuytrens.org/dupuytren-facts-figures/ . In my case, I probably inherited it from my mother but I found out only accidentially that she had a small nodule in her palm. She never had talked about it and did not consider it worth mentioning.
I developed my first nodule at the age of 35, which is a little early compared to the average age of 46 for male, but if you look at the graph on https://www.dupuytren-online.info/patient_survey.html you see that quite a few people experience the onset of Dupuytren's much earlier. BTW, are you smoking or did you smoke? That might cause an early onset.

Besides "GENETIC RISKS" other factors can play a role :
>PREDISPOSING DISORDERS, like Diabetes, Thyroid Disease, Liver Disease; some habits like drinking alcohol and smoke (Nicotine connsumption); possible vasoconstrictive medications or pathomechanisms like RAYNAUD SYNDROME
>CHRONIC MECHANIC STRESS like craftsmen working with jack hammers
> Other professional or leisure activities inducing micro-traumata or
> hypoxic conditions in a long-term healing process after bone fracture or soft tissue trauma
When looking at your photograph I also detect 2 cords in conjunction with the two nodules. This needs to be carefully examined. You should also explore your foot soles for a possible Ledderhose Disease.
OVERALL EARLY USE of RADIOTHERAPY in a stage which could still be defined as a favourable STAGE N should be considered on your side. Thanks for the responses. Never smoked, no diabetes or hand injuries. Use to drink coke regularly, also previously was vitamin d deficient. The hand specialist seemed dismissive of non genetic factors. Also I don't feel any cords, I think it is just nodules at this point.
Threeper:How large do nodules get? The one under my middle finger is around 1.8cm by 0.9cm. Can't find any information on this.
One of my hands looks a bit like yours, and has stayed that way for years after RT. The other one started out like that too, but the larger nodule slowly but surely developed into a cord reaching up into the finger. The next phase, if it develops further, likely would be nodule 'fattening' or skin pitting or new nodules or cord development; along with soreness, tightening, itching, tingling, aching, that might indicate it's progressing?

Having treated about 2.500 patients with radiotherapy and performed about 100 videoconsultations since March 2019 I would dare to analyse your hand just from the "medium quality photographs" as much more developed than just a simple early NODULAR STAGE - from my perspective you have also signs of CORDS a d pobably MORE NODULES in digits D3, D4 and D5. Much more details are possible to detect in a video examination ...

Ok thanks for responses. Feeling around there is a possible cord associated with the left nodule though it could just be the tendon I’m feeling. I had one last question that has been bothering me. I likely was very vitamin d deficient when the nodules appeared (like 1/10th recommended levels). The association of vitamin d deficiency and cancer has made me a bit paranoid regarding the diagnosis of my hand. Is there any association of vitamin d deficiency and Dupytrens?
