Radiation Side Effects
Has anyone who had radiation on their hands experienced swelling and pain following the radiation? My hands felt fine up until the last few days. Today, they are swollen and very sore. My right hand is more swollen than my left, espeially my middle finger at the joint where I have a nodule. I finished radiation two weeks ago today. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!!

Re: Radiation Side Effects
Patty, I myself had several radiations. Swelling and pain are not typical. This might have other reasons. In any case you should discuss this with your doctor, the radioloigist or some another doctor.
Is the swelling getting worse or better? If it's getting worse, you should not wait seeing your doctor.
Wishing you a quick recovery

Re: Radiation Side Effects
Hi Patty,
I had a little bit of swelling, and Dr. Kuhn had indicated to me that I might have some, especially in the morning, upon getting up. She said using my hands (gently) would reduce the swelling. I didn't experience soreness, though.

Re: Radiation Side Effects
I had no soreness or swelling but Dr. Seegenschmiedt recommended using a hand lotion that was at least 10% urea. Dryer skin can be a lifelong side effect of the XRT according to the Professor.
