VCU/MGH or Germany ???

Hi All,
I've been researching many of the posts here...SO much help. Thank you all.
I need to get RT NOW as it is active. Both hands and both feet affected. Need to decide where to go.
My insurance is a local carrier (MVP) will delay the RT with months of denials and jumping through hoops. MGH quoted $44,000 for 2 hands, 1 foot. VCU quoted $13,000 for the same treatment (which includes both treatment sessions)
I don't know why the disparity in cost...NE vs. South ? Cost is a major concern as I fear no help from insurance.
Germany may turn out to be cheaper but should I be concerned that Dr S doesn't rely on CT scans to identify the area to be radiated ? On the other hand () CT scans are additional radiation...
Can anyone let me know what these clinics charged, is there any wiggle room in the cost, and what wording has worked for them to get insurance company to approve ?
Any idea what hand surgery costs are like for DD ? No, I don't want surgery, just to show the cost comparison to MVP.
All for now--hoping for a few replies,
Thanks so much, Meg

Re: VCU/MGH or Germany ???

Meg,

If you believe you are going to go to VCU, I would see if Dr. Weiss would submit the proposal to your insurance company. It they ask for authorization you stand a better chance of having it paid for. They don't have to accept your insurance to help you get it paid for. It will be hard for them to get authorization without you having an appointment. My guess is you will have to meet first with Dr. Weiss, she will verify the diagnosis and then they could see if your insurance would be willing to pay for it.

Good luck,

Lori

USA or Germany ??? No doubt what is the best ...

There is no DOUBT ,

> Germans have much more experience in EXAMINING the disorder carefully and with perspective

> they know what to treat and what is not necessary to treat

> they have published results, i.e proven evidence for effectiveness with their concepts

> they charge a much cheaper price, about 1.000 Euro per extremity (10 treatments)

> there are good reports from patients about their qualified procedures and their proper handling of patients

So what is on the other side ?

> Where is EXPERIENCE, appropriate INDICATION of radiotherapy, published EVIDENCE and a REASONABLE PRICE ?

Sorry that I may be biased, but I had excellent service sofar ! And radiation made my life much easier, THX to German Radiotherapists ! Wish you a good decision, LARRY
