New to forum with questions about DD symptoms

I am a 72 year old female in remission with Graves Disease. Earlier this year I had a full replacement of the right shoulder. Some weeks after the surgery I noticed a hard lump in the palm of my left hand, no pain, and then checked the right hand and found 3 hard lumps, also no pain. About the same time I was weaning off the sling and beginning physical therapy. As PT progressed I noticed tingling, numbness and swelling in the right hand day and night but worse when doing PT and at night. I began waking up 4-5 times during the night with pain in the right hand despite the fact that I was sleeping on my back or opposite side.

I just found this forum when I searched online for something that might cause the bumps on my hands wondering if somehow they could be linked to the numbness and pain instead of my shoulder surgery. I think I may have DD. Also I now think that I have had LH for more than 30 years as I have 3 hard bumps on the tendon in the arch of my left foot which I rarely notice as I have a high arch. My question is has anyone experience tingling, numbness, swelling and pain in the hand with DD?

Thanks for your input.

Terri

Hi Terri

DD often first shows up after hand/wrist/arm surgery and symptoms do include tingling, itching, aching and pins and needles and such in the hands. You should probably get a confirmed, or otherwise, diagnosis from a hand specialist. Depending on rate of progression or other symptoms, if it is DD look into treatment options for the different stages. At your age yours might settle down and not need further treatment. But maybe look after your hands a bit more doing sport, DIY, cooking, crafts, etc. than you might have done in the past. Best wishes.

Hi AZTerri ,
I am from California, i have share some information with you about the most common signs that you have Dupuytren’s or not and it may be progressing :

*Lumps and pits start to form in the palm. The lumps may be sensitive to the skin's touch and feel attached.
*Thick cords may grow from the palms to the fingers and expand. The last two fingers (ring and pinky fingers) are most commonly affected.
*Both hands may be affected, but one is usually worse than the other.
*Over time it may become difficult to lay your hand down flat.
*Although the contraction isn’t painful, it can become increasingly difficult to use your hand. It can become harder to shake hands, wear gloves and even wash your hands.
*Straightening your fingers may become impossible, and stretching or splinting your fingers won't help and may make the condition worse.
I hope these steps will helpful for you find Dupuytren's Contracture easily.
