Does anyone besides me suffer from boutonniere deformity on a finger treated for DD? My little and adjoining ring finger were treated with Xiaflex a couple of years ago and while both are reasonably erect, the little finger has a horrible deformity called boutonniere deformity. I am a pianist and unfortunately both the DD and now this deformity severely impact my ability to play correctly. I just was curious if anyone on this forum had a similar response to the DD treatment. By the way, there's no surgeon (at least not in my area (USA-Michigan) that has offered any solution to the deformity in terms of surgery, etc. Frankly I am not sure I am any better off with the boutonniere deformity than I was with DD (although that little finger was horribly encased with collagen cords and the DD probably could not have been treated any other way).

I had a virtual visit with the surgeon who performed the Xiaflex treatment two years ago on that finger. He said that while progressing casting of the finger MIGHT assist it in straightening, it would be temporary at best. His expertise is hand surgery but even he admitted there's nothing he could do to mitigate that deformity. It's unfortunate that my little finger was the recipient of so many cords from the Dupuytrens, that caused the traumatic damage. Honestly I am not sure the DD would have been better to have lived with then the end-result following treatment.

I have an unusual manifestation of a hyperextended DIP (since I was a toddler) and my PIP prefers slight flexion but it is actively and passively correctable. I have had an ultrasound scan and my central slip is intact and when I try ORL stretches I have limits but more on only the left side of the DIP joint. Ultrasound also showed moderate tendonesis volarly on DIP joint. As I read more, it seems it may be an atypical Dupeytreyns. That led me to your post and I had just read about collegnese injections in the DIP transverse ligaments to reduce joint contractures. I thought this moght help you as a pianist.
