NA experience with Dr. Pess

Hi there - As someone who has searched this site extensively and researched the treatment options for my DC's I thought I would post on the good experience I have had with NA. I have DD in both hands and am a healthy 48 year old woman. Both little fingers have contracted over the last 18-24 months - my left finger much more involved with thick cords and nodules. Doctor's in my area only recommended open hand surgery and in fact hadn't heard of any other treatment options. So, as terrified of surgery as I was I decided to research - this site truly made all the difference.

I finally decided to do NA on my left finger and had the procedure done 2 days ago with Dr. Gary Pess in New Jersey. I was nervous but knew I had to do something... I was quite overwhelmed the day of my appointment and was surprised that my usual pain tolerance wasn't "working" as I had hoped. However, the pain was short lived and the whole thing was over in about 25 minutes. I did not require any pain medication after the Lidocain wore off and was happily surprised at how little bruising and swelling there was the following morning. I have an appointment today with a hand therapist and will do 8 weeks of PT to hopefully improve the bend in my finger even more and have a splint made. I will have the other finger corrected in the fall and hope that since it doesn't have the same level of progression that the pain during NA may be reduced. I do not want anesthesia and definitely think what I have gained already was worth it. I am back at work today and able to lay my hand flat again which is pretty exciting to me! I can't imagine how debilitating open surgery would be and with a life to lead NA has certainly been a great experience so far!

I know this will be an ongoing issue and I hope I can maintain my finger in this new position for quite some time - fingers crossed! Good luck to all of you and thanks for your experiences and advice that I have gained so much from!!

Jackie
