I was a liitle suprised by their reluctance as well. But as I said I feel their just being careful at this time and want to observe the early treatments to make sure there are no side effects. I have both dupuytrens and ledderhose. First treatments were only to one hand. Next round they'll finish that hand and then do one foot. I really think they'll give the go ahead once they observe there are little to no side effects. I'll ask again when I return in February and/or Jesse you can ask on your next visit.

I must have just gotten lucky. I didn't email the department in general, I picked an individual Doctor based on their individual Bio. So happened he was interested and by luck one of his colleges was German and aware of the work done their.

U of M-Ann Arbor sounds good.so much closer to me than
Topeka or Ca.

How did you get treated?Did you just call the ...medical center,
and get tranferred to an ortho?

do I have to get referred by my primary care Dr.?

In the USA doctors increase their potential liability for mal practice when they do not conform to accepted "standards of treatment". So they do not perform treatments that are new and perform instead traditional treatments, such as a fasciectomy, that has a higher medical risk but is covered by their mal practice insurance.

I had numerous radiologists in California refuse to provide XRT for my hands. I finally convinced Dr. Penny Snead, who was a former associate of Dr. Seegenschmiedt, to oversee the treatment at the UC Med Center in San Francisco. But she is very much in the minority when it comes to trying treatments for diseases where there is little or no history in the United States. It helped that Dr. Snead was at a teaching hospital.

The treatments were in June everyday for 5 days. the first day took about an hour to get set up they took a mold of my hand so they could pinpoint just the spot they wanted to radiate and tattooed my hand on the nodule, the rest of the week they only took just a few min to do the treatment. Then two week break then another 5 days of treatment. I went back after 10 weeks for him to check my progress, the nodule is smaller and the cord is softened. I will go back in April to check the further progress.
